Redundant Solar Desalination System for a Remote Island

Product: SolarRO BW500 container
Production capacity: 5m³ per hour
PV field: 21,6 kW

Challenge
A municipality on a remote island required a redundant water source to improve the reliability of its water supply infrastructure. Limited grid access, no centralized piping, and exposure to harsh environmental conditions posed logistical and operational challenges.

Solution
A containerized SolarRO desalination system was delivered, offering a daily production capacity of 500 m³. The unit includes an AFM glass media filtration system for efficient pre-treatment and is optimized for decentralized, off-grid operation. Designed for autonomous performance, the system integrates direct solar power and can operate independently without batteries or external power.

Impact
The municipality secured a resilient and self-sufficient water supply, improving system redundancy and ensuring uninterrupted service during peak demand or supply disruptions. The solar-powered design minimizes operating costs and supports sustainable infrastructure development in remote locations.
