Solar RO System Delivers Safe Water to 26,000 in Drought-Stricken Madagascar

Product: SolarRO BW120 container
Production capacity: 5 m³ per hour
PV field: 13 kW

Challenge

The city of Tsihombe, Madagascar, faced a severe water crisis when the Manambovo River dried up, leaving the entire population, including the hospital, without a stable source of clean water. To make matters worse, the region’s unreliable electric grid made traditional reverse osmosis purification unfeasible, as the process requires consistent water pressure and power supply.

Solution

We implemented a game-changing solution by equipping the hospital and municipal water network with a SolarRO BW60 purification system. Drawing water from a deep borehole on the riverbank, the system features our patented ANVS technology, which stabilizes water pressure—enabling purification even under unstable grid conditions. The solar-powered operation reduces dependence on the unreliable electric grid and significantly lowers energy costs.

Impact

Since the installation of the SolarRO BW60 system in November 2022, the hospital has enjoyed an uninterrupted supply of clean water. Producing over 45 million liters of fresh water annually, the system now provides safe drinking water to 26,000 people in Tsihombe. The impact on public health and well-being has been transformative.
